How I work
I work with people over the age of 18, either online (over zoom) or in-person, and I work both on a short-term and long-term basis.
My in-person therapy sessions take place at the Green House Therapy Rooms in Chiswick, West London. Please visit the website here for more information.
When we first meet, we start off with some admin; I gather details like where you live and information about your day-to-day life. We will have a look at my contract, to make sure that you know about practical issues such as booking and cancelling sessions, and important aspects about therapy such as confidentiality. We will start to talk about why you’ve decided to come to therapy and what your goals and expectations might be.
The first session
As we continue with our sessions, we start to develop a connection between us, the formation of which is a very important part of our work together. It’s really important that you feel safe and secure; that there is a trusting connection between us and that you feel heard and not judged as we talk. At the core of my practice is careful listening and the offering of kindness, honesty, lack of judgement and reliability.
Early sessions
Together, we look in depth at your challenges out in the world. My general approach is to guide you to access and explore deep feelings and where they come from. We might look at what has happened to you in your life and identify unhelpful and deep-seated beliefs from the past. We can carefully explore how these affect your ways of feeling, relating and behaving out there in the world today. Developing greater awareness and self-understanding in this way can help you to come to terms with why you might be struggling today. This can open up the possibility of choice, and with it, healing and change. We can go on to develop self-compassion, acceptance and new strategies; different, helpful ways of being for the future.
Sometimes this process can be really painful as difficult emotions and experiences get stirred up; I am here to be with you when this happens; you are not alone.
